Jeokbyeok is a geosite, featuring well-developed bedding planes within a large-scale Cretaceous bed. Studying the beds helps geologists understand the paleoenvironment of the site. Jeokbyeok has been designated as South Jeolla Province Monument (no.60). In addition, the site, located along Dongbok Lake, offers scenic beauty. The most popular geotrail for tourists is the outcropping on the face of Jeokbyeok (Red Cliff), located along Mulyeomjung and Gusugol riverside. The sedimentary environment of Jeokbyeok reveals that a large amount of volcanic ash overlies sediments that have accumulated in a lake. The outcropping, mostly of tuff, displays well-developed layerings.
