Busan, marks the middle part of Dadaepo Basin which was formed between Yangsan fault and Dongrae fault in Gyeongsang Basin during the late Cretaceous (80 to 70 million years ago). Its geological features include a syndepositional normal fault relating to the expansion of Dadaepo Basin; clastic dikes and sills; paleoseismic ductile deformation structures; and sedimentary structures such as bedding, cross-bedding, reduction spot, petrified woods, and calcrete. *normal fault: the block above the fault moves down relative to the one below the fault *clastic dikes: flat clastic body intruded into open fracture like igneous dikes In a reddish sandstone bed are often observed fossils of dinosaur egg fragments. Very recently reported were fossils of dinosaur egg nests in a marl bed which hold a national value for geological science. Given that Compound Calcrete Deposits has been a primary topic for paleoclimate research of the Cretaceous and there is no other place with such a variety of calcrete in Korea, the peninsula is regarded as an invaluable national asset for geology.
