Morundae is near the coast on the southern tip of Saha-gu, Busan. It is the southwestern part of the Dadaepo Basin which was shaped between Yangsan fault and Dongrae fault during the late Cretaceous. The view from the sky above makes it look like a crab opening both claws; on the east end of the site is Hwasondae and on the west end Jangundae. The name Morundae is derived from the fact that no adjacent islands are visible in a foggy and cloudy day; mol means fall in and un means cloud.
Various types of rocks are found in the Morundae, resulting in outstanding geological diversity.
It takes quite a unique landform, a land-tied island an island connected to the land by sandbar formed between the two. Besides, other landforms like sea cliffs, wave-cut terraces and shingle beach can be observed in the Morundae.
*sandbar: deposits of sand underwater or sand moved by currents
*shingle beach: a beach of pebble deposits
In the vicinities of the Morundae are distributed historic sites and tourist destinations: Dadaepo Beach, Dadaepo Shell Mound Bird Sanctuary of the Nakdonggang Estuary, Dadaepo Dreamy Sunset Fountain, Amisan Observatory, Dadaepo Inn, and Monument to the Loyalty of Jeong Un. The observatories of Morundae and Hwasondae present unparalleled scenery harmonized with pebble beach, sand beach, Gamcheon port, unmanned islands, tip of the Songdo Peninsula, sea cliffs and wave-cut terraces.
